Helen Al-Ammari is a Saudi based mixed media artist, born in Newcastle, England. She has owned and operated her own art and framing business, Arabian Collections Gallery in Al-Khobar, Saudi Arabia for 17 years and is an active supporter of Saudi arts and artists.
She has an eclectic background with an MBA from Hull University and extensive experience as a nurse in the UK, America and Saudi Arabia. Her formal art education was with City & Guilds of London, where she studied oil painting. The richness inherent in this medium appealed to her greatly, however recent works have taken her in a different direction. Working with mixed media, Helen has taken a step forward into abstract painting, enjoying a creative process in which nothing is "wrong" and embracing the expresseness, discovery, creativity and sponteneity it affords.
Finding balance is just as important to her, exploring a style that allows freedom yet maintains a sense of harmony and order in her compositions, keeping some reality while also being able to disconnect the subject from its function.
In her latest collections of paintings worked in mixed media using acrylic paint glazes, charcoal, waxes, and collage of hand-painted papers and fabrics she incorporates all the Arabesque design elements and motif, which fascinate and inspire the artist!
